TV Wall Mounting on All Wall Types – Professional TV Installation

Every wall is constructed differently, and choosing the correct fixing method is one of the most important parts of a safe TV installation. At TV Mounter, we provide professional TV wall mounting on all common wall types, including plasterboard, brick, dot and dab, concrete, solid masonry, chimney breasts and media walls.

With 10+ years of experience, our installers understand that the same fixings and brackets cannot simply be used for every wall. Before mounting your TV, we assess the wall construction, TV size and weight, bracket type and required fixing points to determine an appropriate installation method.

From a standard 43″ television to an 85″, 98″ or 100″+ large-screen TV, we install all major TV brands using mounting methods suited to the individual wall and installation.

Why Wall Type Matters When Mounting a TV

A TV bracket transfers the weight of the television into the wall. The way that load should be supported depends heavily on how the wall is constructed.

A solid brick wall requires a different fixing approach from a hollow plasterboard wall. Dot and dab construction may look like plasterboard from the outside but has solid masonry behind it, while concrete requires suitable drilling equipment and fixings.

Bracket choice also matters. A low-profile fixed bracket generally creates less leverage than a full-motion bracket that can extend the television away from the wall.

Before installation, we consider:

  • Wall construction

  • TV size and weight

  • Bracket type

  • Fixing locations

  • Required fixing depth

  • Condition of the wall

  • Bracket extension and movement

  • Cable-management requirements

  • Final TV position and height

TV Mounting on Plasterboard Wall

Plasterboard walls are extremely common in UK homes, flats, apartments and newer developments.

A plasterboard wall may be supported by timber studs, metal framing or another internal structure. The appropriate mounting method therefore depends on what is actually behind the board.

Our installers assess the wall construction before choosing the fixing method. We consider TV weight, bracket design, available structural support and the location of suitable fixing points.

Fixed and tilt brackets are commonly used on plasterboard walls. Full-motion brackets require additional consideration because extending the TV away from the wall creates greater leverage.

TV Mounting on Brick Wall

Brick is one of the most common solid wall types we encounter.

When the brickwork is suitable, it can provide a strong base for mounting TVs of many different sizes. The fixing method and drilling depth are selected according to the wall construction, TV weight and bracket.

We install fixed, tilt and full-motion brackets on suitable brick walls and regularly mount large-screen TVs where the wall structure and fixing points allow.

For cable management, surface trunking is often the most practical solution on solid brick walls.

TV Mounting on Dot and Dab Wall

Dot and dab walls require a different approach from standard plasterboard stud walls.

With dot and dab construction, plasterboard is attached to brick or blockwork using adhesive, leaving a small gap between the board and the solid wall behind it.

Where appropriate, specialist fixing methods can bridge this cavity and anchor the TV bracket into the masonry behind the plasterboard. This helps transfer the load back to the solid structure rather than relying solely on the plasterboard.

The cavity depth, masonry type, TV weight and bracket design are considered before selecting the fixing method.

TV Mounting on Concrete Walls

Concrete provides a solid mounting surface but requires suitable drilling equipment and appropriate fixings.

We install TVs on concrete walls in houses, apartments, offices and commercial properties. Concrete construction is particularly common in apartment blocks and larger developments.

The wall is assessed before drilling so that the bracket can be positioned correctly and suitable fixing points can be selected.

Fixed, tilt and full-motion brackets can be installed on appropriate concrete walls, subject to the TV, bracket and wall conditions.

TV Mounting on Chimney Breasts

Chimney breasts are popular positions for televisions because they often provide a natural focal point in a living room.

Many chimney breasts are constructed from brick or other solid masonry, but construction can vary considerably, particularly in older or renovated properties.

We assess the chimney breast before installation and consider the TV size, bracket type, fixing depth and available mounting area.

TV height is particularly important on chimney breasts. Where a fireplace, mantel or shelf means the TV needs to sit higher than normal, a tilt bracket can help angle the screen downward towards the seating position for more comfortable viewing.

TV Wall Types FAQs

TVs can be installed on most common wall types, but suitability depends on the individual wall construction, condition, TV weight, bracket and available fixing points.

Large TVs can be mounted on suitable plasterboard constructions where an appropriate fixing method and adequate structural support are available. The wall should be assessed before installation.

Dot and dab uses plasterboard, but the board is normally attached over solid masonry using adhesive. This differs from a typical hollow stud wall and requires a different fixing approach.

Solid masonry can often provide a suitable base for full-motion brackets. Other wall types may also be suitable depending on their construction and available structural support. Because full-motion brackets create additional leverage, each installation should be assessed individually.

Whether your wall is plasterboard, brick, dot and dab, concrete, solid masonry, a chimney breast or a purpose-built media wall, choosing the correct installation method is essential.

TV Mounter combines 10+ years of experience with careful wall assessment, suitable fixings and accurate TV positioning to provide a secure and professional installation.
